Our Cortez Hill – Espresso is a unique 50/50 blend of Guatemalan and Colombian coffee beans. Since Espresso is such an integral part of a coffee shop, we crafted a blend to be exceptionally drinkable either on its own, in a latte, or even as a Pour Over. We roast each origin specifically for Espresso before blending it. This allows for a sweet, well-balanced flavor that gives our Espresso a rich crema and chocolatey taste.
Both Guatemala and Colombia are known for producing some of the finest coffee in the world. As the first and second-largest specialty coffee producers in the world, combining these two origins was a no brainer. The care and attention taken to produce and process these beans are clear upon first taste.
We are so proud of our Espresso that we decided to name it after the community where we got our start. Cortez Hill is a lively community in the heart of Downtown San Diego. Named after the iconic El Cortez Hotel, its tower can be seen from almost anywhere Downtown. We opened the first Achilles Coffee Roasters across the street from the El Cortez Hotel in 2015 and we’ve been roasting there ever since.
