Ethiopia Bench Maji Gesha Farm G1 Natural

In the deep southwest of Ethiopia, nearby the Gori Gesha forest lies Gesha Karmach Farm, a rising star in the Bench Maji zone.   Established in 2019, this 1,000-hectare estate is tucked into the ancient forested highlands of Gesha district, where the legendary Gesha variety was first discovered.

The Farm is located just five kilometers from the famed Gesha Village Estate.   Sharing the same altitude, rainfall, and rich forest soils as its more renowned neighbors, Gesha Karmach Farm benefits from ideal conditions for high-quality coffee cultivation.  With 350 hectares of the estate are currently under coffee, planted with a selection of  Gesha varieties and indigenous landraces, producing uniquely expressive lots.

While deforestation has altered much of Ethiopia’s landscape, Bench Maji remains one of the last strongholds of native forest. The trees form a natural green dome under which coffee thrives undisturbed.   Along its eastern border flows the Omo River, winding its way toward Lake Turkana, a living reminder of the region’s deep connection to water, forest, and land.

At the heart of Gesha Karmach’s mission is a vision for regenerative agriculture, one that works in harmony with the ancient forests of Bench Maji. An abundance of indigenous shade tree species naturally protect the coffee trees, creating a thriving agroforest system that improves airflow, soil nutrition, and plant health, while preserving local biodiversity.

The farm maintains a large nursery dedicated to Gesha varietals, which will support the estate’s long-term growth.   As it expands, the farm remains committed to sustainable development that respects the land and the local communities—including the local Bench, Me’en, and Amhara communities, who have long depended on the forest and its resources.

We ship USPS priority mail. We offer free shipping on orders over $40. 

We ship Monday - Friday. Orders placed after 1pm on Friday’s will ship on Monday.
