From the highlands of Mataquescuintla in Jalapa, Guatemala, Finca La Montañita and Los Naranjales produces a vibrant coffee that reflects the diversity of this lesser-known growing region. Grown at elevations between 1,750 and 2,000 meters above sea level, this Yellow Catuai lot delivers a cup that is bright and lively, with citrus and fruit notes balanced by caramel sweetness and a smooth chocolate backbone. The cooler mountain climate and rich volcanic soils help the cherries develop slowly, resulting in dense beans with complex flavor layers and a crisp, clean finish.

Farm Story: 

Finca La Montañita and Los Naranjales has been owned and operated by José Humberto González Morales since 1984. Nestled in the community of Aldea Sansupo, the farm has become known for both its quality and its willingness to experiment with processing, including innovative fermentations such as orange peel maceration. While washed coffee remains the foundation of production, these experiments highlight the farm’s commitment to innovation and excellence. With a focus on sustainable cultivation and meticulous harvesting, Finca La Montañita and Los Naranjales continues to showcase the potential of Jalapa as an origin, producing coffees that stand proudly alongside Guatemala’s more established regions like Huehuetenango and Antigua.
